Voting Procedures

  • Polling Station

    - Vote directly at the overseas polling station installed at the overseas mission

    - Overseas polling stations are in principle installed at the overseas mission, but in case of unavoidable circumstances such as the small size of the overseas mission, overseas polling stations may be installed at alternative facilities such as Korean community centers. The location and name of the overseas polling station shall be announced on the website by 20 days before the election day

  • Voting period

    The Overseas Election Commission shall determine a period of no more than 6 days from 14 days before the election day to 9 days before the election day and announce it on the Internet website by 20 days before the election day

    ※ The overseas voting period and voting time are calculated based on the date of the relevant overseas mission that corresponds to the date determined based on the Korean Standard Time

  • Voting hours

    8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • What to Bring to the Polling Station

    Identification card (original document required to confirm nationality in the case of overseas voters)

  • Identification Document

    A document issued by a government office or public institution in the Republic of Korea with a photo attached, such as a passport, resident registration card, civil servant ID, or driver's license, or a certificate issued by the government of the country of residence with a photo attached, name, and date of birth, and that verifies the identity

  • Nationality Verification document (overseas voters)

    A document announced by the overseas voting management officer of the relevant embassy that can prove that the applicant has not acquired foreign nationality, such as a permanent resident certificate or visa

    ※ If the nationality verification document does not have a photo attached, another identification document with a photo attached must be brought along, and the nationality verification document must be presented at the polling station to vote.

  • Voting method

    Overseas voters, etc. present their ID card to verify their identity → Sign or stamp the ballot paper receipt confirmation machine (signature input machine or unmanned input machine) and receive the ballot paper and return envelope → Select one candidate or one party on the ballot paper using the marking tool provided at the polling station, mark it, put it in the return envelope, seal it, and then put it in the ballot box.
