By-election (Oct 16) Average Voter Turnout of 24.6%

The average voter turnout for the by-elections held on Wednesday, October 16 was 24.6%, with 2,127,316 out of 8,645,180 eligible voters participating in the vote. The by-elections were held in a total of 5 electoral districts, including 1 superintendent of education (Seoul) and 4 local government heads (Geumjeong-gu, Busan, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, Gokseong-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do).

 

The voter turnout for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education superintendent election was 23.5%, and the average voter turnout for the heads of 4 local councils was 53.9%. The voter turnout for the Yeonggwang-gun election in Jeollanam-do was the highest at 70.1%, while the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education superintendent election was the lowest at 23.5%.

 

According to the vote counting results, candidate Jeong Geun-sik was elected in the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Superintendent of Education election, and in the local government head elections, candidate Yoon Il-hyun was elected in the Busan Geumjeong-gu mayoral election, candidate Park Yong-cheol was elected in the Incheon Ganghwa-gun mayoral election, candidate Cho Sang-rae was elected in the Jeollanam-do Gokseong-gun mayoral election, and candidate Jang Se-il was elected in the Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun mayoral election.

The term of office for the elected officials in this by-election begins when the election is decided and is the remaining term of office of the predecessor.
