The National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of Korea welcomed the 9th Australian Delegation of state/territory parliamentaries and political party officials to the Republic of Korea on 23 April 2026 as part of the Korea-Australia Next Generation Political Leaders Exchange Program organized by the Korea Foundation in cooperation with the Austrlian Political Exchange Council. The delegation, comprising members of Australian state parliaments and political party representatives, visited the NEC's Election Promotion Center to explore election equipment for voting and counting. During the visit, the delegation received briefings on ballot sorting and counting, safeguards to ensure the accuracy of vote counting, election observation, cybersecurity measures, and the administration of invalid ballots. The delegation also held discussions with the Chief Planning and Coordination Officer Ock Misun on a wide range of election-related topics, including election administration, overseas voting, campaign regulations, political finance, civic education, and the role of the NEC in strengthening democratic governance. The NEC introduced Korea's efforts to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections while sharing its experience in election management and democratic development. The delegation, in turn, exchanged views on Australia's electoral system and expressed interest in further opportunities to continue cooperation between the two countries. The NEC expects this visit to further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Australia in the fields of election management and democracy. |
